Horses of Hoofprint Bay includes built-in color pickers for your character and tack, while custom palettes, edited textures and community-made tack or clothing involve custom files. For downloaded items, check compatibility with the full game, extract the contents into the appropriate mod folder and completely restart the game.
What You Can Customize Without Downloads
Use the built-in color-picking tools to edit your character's appearance and the colors of tack items. The game also provides a curated selection of customization items and color combinations. Try those options first if you want a different color scheme without editing files.
Prestige determines the variety of tack available to purchase in the shop. Keep that progression route in mind when deciding whether you need a downloaded design. Check the available shop items and their built-in color options before choosing custom files for your intended look.
What Custom Appearance Files Change
The game also allows you to modify accessible textures and text files to create custom color palettes and alter the appearance of horses and characters. Community creators have released custom tack and clothing as fan-made modifications. Choose these when you want a particular creator's design, and follow the instructions supplied for that download.
Check Compatibility With the Full Game
The full game released on November 4, 2026. Saves from the February Demo are incompatible with the full game, while saves from the October Demo are compatible. Those save-transfer rules do not establish whether a particular tack or clothing download will work, so check the creator's compatibility notes separately.
Read the installation notes for the exact download you intend to use. The creator's custom-tack guide includes demo-specific instructions, so check which edition its directions address before applying them. Choose files whose creator explicitly identifies them as suitable for the full game.
Windows Folders for Tack and Clothing
The community creator's Windows installation instructions place extracted custom-tack contents in AppData/LocalLow/ThogliStudios/Horses of Hoofprint Bay/Saves~/Mods/Tack. The corresponding clothing folder is AppData/LocalLow/ThogliStudios/Horses of Hoofprint Bay/Saves~/Mods/Clothes. Match the destination to the content you are installing, and follow any additional directions supplied with that download.
Open the creator's custom tack installation guide for its folder directions and demo-specific notes.
Install Your Custom Tack or Clothing
- Extract the downloaded files so their contents are ready to place in the relevant mod folder.
- Place the extracted contents in the appropriate Tack or Clothes directory listed above so they follow the creator's folder layout.
- Completely restart the game after placing the contents, as the creator's guide directs, before checking your custom appearance.
